If you give employer three week notice and they only schedule you for two- do they have to pay you for 3?

My husband is quitting a retail store. He found a new job at a store that isn't opening until the end of the month. He gave three weeks notice- he got his schedule and they only scheduled him for two weeks. One of the managers had originally told him they would have to pay him until the date he put he would work until. Is this true? or are they going to screw him over with no work and no pay??
Answers:
He'll probably get no work and no pay for the last week. I doubt there is anything he can do about it unless he has a signed agreement. I've known quite a few people that this has happened to ( two week notice, but only permitted to work one, with fewer hours). Or worse, try to put in a notice and the boss says never mind we don't need you anyway. I don't know about your state, but in my area bosses have been known to retaliate against people that put in a notice by knocking their last paycheck down to minimum wage, and it's perfectly legal.
Check your local laws. They may also owe you accumulated vacation pay. Two weeks notice is the usual, not three.
no pay due if he is terminated in 2 weeks. week 3 he is on his own.
By the way, they are not screwing him over, he quit the company, they did not quit him.
No
They can let you go after two weeks
because that is all the time your suppose to give them also,
But they should have been a little more compassionate,
some people don't give any notice.
He should talk to the boss and ask if they could schedule hours for the third week,
maybe they took his three weeks for two weeks not to many people give three weeks.
He will not get paid for that 3rd week as he will not be working.
Why would the "old" employer be libel for an extra weeks salary ?? This is not severance pay according to what you have stated !!
You tell an employer you no longer want to work for him, you offer two weeks for him to find someone else or make other arrangements out of respect for him. He can send you home right then but most of the time because you gave fair warning he will allow you to stay and continue getting paid out of respect for you.
I mean how long do you want to keep somebody around who has said he no longer wants to work for you and may spend the remaining time diddling himself on the payroll.
