I used to know how to spell that word until your question blew it out of my mind. And, yes, if you go along with the police, everything will work out better. The fines themselves may still be levied, but you may save a lot of prison time. Then, you can use that time to work and recover the fines you lost.
I think you mean "cooperate." It depends on the charge, the fine, and how you are cooperating, not to mention the actual police officer or prosecutor.
